Country Cuisine

By Becky Davis

When enrolling in a photography class with the subject “South Culture,” there were many aspects of the South that came to mind, but none as prominent as food. Southern food has brought people together for generations. While the people may change, the recipes should not and this is exactly what I found at Mama Dip’s restaurant in Chapel Hill. This upscale southern comfort food is authentic and prepared with care by a staff that is, in some cases literally, family. I was able to go behind the structure of the restaurant, getting to know the staff and witness the exhausting reality of the restaurant business. Seeing the passing down of recipes from one generation to another, hospitable customer service, and long-time devotion invested within this restaurant, it is no wonder that everyone is raving about Mama Dip’s.
